Attack
Attack is a piece for full orchestra inspired by the terrorist attacks occurring mostly
in Europe in 2017. I was currently studying abroad in Ireland when they began to
occur and was struck by how easily the people I was around brushed off the terrible
things that were happening very close to them, or even in their own country. I
attempted to capture some of the spirit of those times in this piece. The woodwinds
and violin pizzicato melodies are meant to represent everyday life, the brass
interruptions attacks, and the string chorale the few voices that are hurt and
affected by these attacks, growing as the attacks continue to eventually take over
the piece as the only voices left.
One-movement orchestral piece (2,2,2,2), (2,2,2,1), timpani, 4 percussion, strings; 7'; premiered by the Baldwin Wallace Symphony Orchestra at Gamble Hall, Berea, OH, 2018
